Environmental Wellness is the good management of the spatial space in which the family and children live or use, whether this space is a home, office, neighborhood, work, school, tent, tree shade, car, park or a wide environment, in constructive psychological, social, physical and material formulas for their survival and progress.
In fact, there are no limits to the human environment, no matter how far away they are.. All surrounding environments with their air, water and food affect their health negatively or positively. The accident of the Russian nuclear reactor Chernobyl in 1980, whose explosions polluted the sky and the earth in Asia and Europe until they reached us in the countries of the Middle East and Africa, is an example of the importance of the environment and its health for the health of the human family and children.
The purity of the air that the family and children breathe, the safety of the food they eat, the psychological comfort they feel in moving and living in the environment and the ease of using it are all indicators of the health of their environment. All of this requires the family and children to take care in using and caring for three types of environments: the immediate family environment, the intermediate work or school environment, and the general open, indirect or distant social and natural environment.
While the responsibility for preserving the family environment falls directly on the family and children, preserving the work and school environments is a shared responsibility of the work family of administrators, employees and customers or the school family of teachers, learners, administrators and other working cadres.
As for the responsibility for the health of the broad social and natural environment outside the two previous environments, it necessarily falls on all individuals, families, groups and institutions in society… starting with the ruler at the top of the official social hierarchy and ending with the ordinary person in the unofficial mass base.
Solidarity in preserving environmental health is the responsibility of all people… as the noble hadith applies here: “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.” Thus, everyone is a shepherd and everyone is responsible for the safety and health of the environment… if, of course, convincing results are desired for the health and safety of the person in the family and children.
The family and children can take care of the environmental health of their home by adopting general and simple procedures within the reach of normal life capabilities, such as:
1- Organizing the family environment’s assets in the appropriate formats and home spaces for the function and nature of each, and in a way that serves their psychological, social and life needs as individuals and a family group. The principles of simplicity, practicality/pragmatism and balance are important for the health, distribution and use of these assets.
2- Maintaining the cleanliness of the family environment in terms of fresh, renewed air and keeping the home’s spaces free from food residues and objects.
Using water, healthy disinfectants and natural scents (made from concentrated oils taken from leaves, flowers and roots of plants) are effective materials in maintaining the safety of the family home and enjoying the family’s environmental health.
3- Using calm colors that are comfortable for the eye and soul in the decor and assets of the home and the clothes that the family and children obtain, such as blue, green and light colors in general.
4- Using calm and meaningful music and singing and rhythmic recordings for hearing, perception and comfort of the soul. The noise, commotion and meaningless talk prevalent among the younger generations are one of the factors behind their aesthetic and psychological pollution, the dispersion of their desires and their inability to focus on what benefits their health in the present and the future.
5- Maintaining order and general calm in family life without screaming, “screaming”, loud voices and hysterical movements of the children as is sometimes observed, in order to preserve the psychological and social health of the family home.. and as a result enabling the family and children to relax, psychologically calm and socially enjoy being together in soul, time and place.
